Conservative Defection

Frances Rees-Hughes who represented Tokyngton Ward for the Conservatives between 1982 and 1986 has just joined the Liberal Democrats in Wembley.

Mrs Rees Hughes lives in Clifton Avenue, which is part of the new Wembley Central which the Liberal Democrats won from Labour in a spectacular victory in the local elections on 2 May.

"I have been impressed by the hard work of the Liberal Democrat Team on behalf of the people of Wembley. The Liberal Democrats work and keep local people in Wembley informed all year round through the FOCUS newsletter. We never hear from the Conservatives or Labour, except at election time" says Mrs Rees-Hughes.

The Liberal Democrats who had the most successful local elections now represent 3 of the wards in the Wembley area and saw their numbers increase from 4 to 9 Councillors. Their Wembley Central Councillors Valerie Brown, Havard Hughes and Vijay Shah are already running campaigns for improving Wembley. They have pursing crime and safety issues with Wembley police, continuing their campaign for a Wembley Clean Up and pressing the Council to ensure that local residents are properly consulted about the redevelopment plans for Wembley Central Square, Copland High School site and the whole area around Wembley Stadium.

"We are delighted to welcome Frances Hughes Rees as a member of the Liberal Democrats. As a respected former Councillors and a local resident of many years standing her endorsement of our work for the people of Wembley is a major boost" commented Liberal Democrat Councillor Chuni Chavda.
