Lib Dem MP Ed Davey with local campaigner Sarah Teather - fighting to axe the Council Tax

Londoners are backing Liberal Democrat calls to axe the Council Tax. Bills in Brent have rocketed in recent years and many residents are now saying enough is enough.

Local campaigner Sarah Teather said, "Ken Livingstone increased his part of London's Council Tax by nearly a third this year! These big tax rises are causing real hardship for many in our community, especially the elderly. Council Tax should be abolished and replaced by a new tax related to what regular people can actually afford."

Conservatives Stuck For An Answer!

The Tories introduced the Council Tax to replace their even more disastrous poll tax. Now the Tories are claiming that they too are against the Council Tax! However when Tory shadow Chancellor Michael Howard was asked exactly how they might replace the tax, he told the Daily Telegraph, "I don't know."
