Teather Discusses Iraq At Pakistani Community Centre4.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sun 10th Aug 2003 Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Sarah Teather received a very warm welcome when she visited the Pakistani Community Centre in Willesden Green. Sarah had lunch with local residents after Friday prayers and discussed a wide range of issues, both local and national, but particularly the war in Iraq. Commenting, Sarah Teather said: "I was overwhelmed by the support and warmth of the people I met at the Centre. Many members of the community told me how much they appreciated Charles Kennedy's stance on the war in Iraq. They told me that they felt betrayed by Tony Blair. "Members of the Community also talked to me about problems they were having with the local NHS and their concerns about school funding. Sarah added: "I think this by-election is going to be a test of trust. People don't trust Tony Blair anymore. They don't trust him on the war, and they don't trust him on hospitals or schools either. People in Brent are looking for a change and they want to vote for someone who will stand up for them on the issues that really matter - better local services, care for the elderly and safer, cleaner streets."
