TEATHER BACKS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 3rd Oct 2003

Sarah Teather MP last night attended the launch of Black History Month at Willesden Green Library Centre. The Brent East MP has called for as many Brent residents as possible to attend the series of fifty events being held in Brent in the next month.

Sarah Teather MP said:

"If the launch event was anything to go by Black History Month should prove a staggering success. I would urge Brent residents to go and see for themselves the range of talented performers at these events.

"Black history has for far too long been overlooked. Black culture has played an important role in our society's development and it is vital that it is recognised. We must do all we can to bring Black history into mainstream education so that it is recognised not just at events like these but throughout our schools."

"What was so heartening about last night's event was the performances of talented young performers such as Limitless and Aisha. Black History Month provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talents."
