Teather Calls For Resolution Of APDA Premises Crisis8.51.02pm UTC (GMT +0000) Sat 10th Jan 2004
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today called on both Brent Council and North West London Hospitals Trust to resolve their accommodation dispute with the Asian Peoples with Disabilities Alliance (APDA). The Alliance faces eviction from its specially adapted disability centre at the Central Middlesex Hospital due to re-development as part of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project. The Alliance faces eviction from the property in March and so far no adequate alternative sites have been found to house the centre. Brent East MP Sarah Teather has today written to Brent Council, North West London Hospitals Trust and Brent Primary Care Trust demanding that a swift and amicable decision be reached. The local MP has also asked for a complete list of available property owned by the three organisations so that APDA can conduct research into whether any of them would be suitable to the needs of disabled people. Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said: "The Asian Peoples Disability Alliance centre is truly a world-class facility in terms of caring for disabled people. As someone who has visited the centre on a number of occasions I can pay tribute to the unique atmosphere of the centre and the commitment of its staff. The APDA provides a wonderful service for our local community in its care of disabled people. "I find immensely frustrating that all the efforts that the APDA has put in over a number of years in caring for disabled people are now under threat. I hope the organisations involved can act swiftly to resolve this dispute amicably. The hard work of the APDA must not be allowed to be undone for the sake of the local community here in Brent."
