Teather Set To Vote Against Government Fees Bill1.57.43pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 27th Jan 2004
Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather is set to vote against Government plans to introduce top-up fees. The Liberal Democrats will be opposing the introduction of top-up fees which are set to increase student debt to staggering levels. Brent East MP Sarah Teather said: "This bill must be defeated. Top-up fees are a poll tax on students. Students will be left with a potential staggering level of debt if these proposals go through. "I am proud that the Liberal Democrats are opposing these plans. I would urge the Labour MP's to honour their 2001 manifesto pledge and vote against the bill." In 2001 Labour MP's stood on a manifesto that stated that top-up fees would not be introduced. The Liberal Democrats would scrap tuition fees and top-up fees. You can learn more about the campaign to scrap tuition fees at http://www.scraptuitionfees.com
