Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today welcomed Brent Primary Care Trust's 'Five a Day' scheme. Speaking at the launch of the initiative Sarah Teather MP, Shadow Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson stressed the importance of healthier eating in today's society. The campaign is designed to encourage people to eat at least five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

" Everybody can look to eat more healthily. In today's society we are all guilty of relying too heavily on convenience food which is often bad for us. The importance of encouraging people to eat more fruit and vegetables should not be overlooked, particularly amongst children.

"If the country as a whole ate more fruit and vegetables we could significantly transform the health of our nation. Certainly better diets could really cut down the number of cases of health problems like heart disease. I am really pleased to see the PCT tackling this issue head on and I hope that lots of Brent residents take up on the scheme. The PCT's ideas such as encouraging local shopkeepers to stock fresh fruit and veg is a positive step towards addressing the issue."
