Brent has the second lowest number of swimming pools per person in London

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has today revealed figures which show Brent has the second lowest ratio of swimming pools per person in London. A total of one swimming pool per 30,000 people.

Brent also has the joint second lowest number of swimming pools in any borough as well as the lowest ratio of people to total pool size.

In April 2002 the Audit Commission carried out an inspection of sport and leisure services in Brent, which were judged to be poor with poor prospects for improvement.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"These figures show what local people already know, that there is an appalling lack of leisure facilities in Brent. It is no surprise that the Audit Commission has already judged leisure facilities in Brent as poor.

"Swimming is a great activity for young and old in terms of keeping fit and healthy. It is a shame that in Brent there is so little opportunity to enjoy this facility."
