Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for London Sarah Teather MP has today revealed figures that show alcohol related hospital admissions have rocketed by 30% in the last four years in London.

In London between 2000 and 2004 21,920 cases were admitted to hospital through alcohol related problems.

Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for London, Sarah Teather MP said:

"Excessive boozing puts a massive strain on our NHS and police. More must be done to educate about the dangers of drinking in excess.

"The health risks associated with binge drinking are there for all to see. Those that drink to excess must be warned about the dangers associated with alcohol.

"Too often excessive alcohol also leads to violence and anti-social behaviour. The Government must do more to halt this increase in alcohol abuse.

"We need a clearer and better labelling system that all can understand and improved education at an early age to warn of the health dangers that excessive alcohol consumption can bring."
