TEATHER URGES BRENT SCHOOLS TO FIND THE NEXT PARRIS, HOGGART OR ASHLEY

Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, Sarah Teather has today written to Secondary Schools in her Brent East constituency encouraging them to find the next Matthew Parris, Simon Hoggart or Jackie Ashley.

The Liberal Democrat MP is encouraging Secondary schools in Brent to enter the Parliamentary Press Gallery's 2005 writing competition. The winners of the competition will receive a day out in Westminster meeting top journalists and politicians. The competition is open to those in Years 10-13.

The competition is designed to raise awareness of promote awareness and discussion of the values of parliamentary democracy and the political process.

Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said:

"I hope young people in Brent get involved in the competition. It is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in politics and who knows Brent could unearth the next Matthew Parris, Simon Hoggart or Jackie Ashley."

More information can be found on the competition at www.writenow.org.uk. The deadline for entries is Friday 18th November 2005.
