BRENT MP TABLES COMMONS MOTION CALLING ON RELEASE OF CONSTITUENT FROM GUANTANAMO BAY3.54.02pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 27th Feb 2006
Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather will today table a Commons Motion calling for the release of her constituent, Jamil el-Banna from Guantanamo Bay. The Brent East MP has been joined by her local newspaper the Times Series in calling for justice to be given to Mr el-Banna who has been held in Guantanamo Bay since 2003. Local Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather said: "The British Government's barely tepid concern over Guantanamo Bay is morally reprehensible. Jamil el-Banna has now been imprisoned for three years without trial. It is an affront to international law and basic human rights. "Justice must be given to all those held in Guantanamo Bay. If the US Government has evidence then let them present it in a court of law, if it doesn't then these men should be released. "The Prime Minister uses the word 'anomaly' to describe Guantanamo Bay. He is wrong, it is an international disgrace." You can sign the petition calling for the return of Jamil El-banna here http://www.brentlibdems.org.uk/petitions
