Lib Dem odds slashed in Brent2.33.39pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 2nd May 2006 Odds on the Liberal Democrats taking control of Brent Council have been slashed to 7/2 by leading internet bookmakers sportingodds.com. The Liberal Democrats are the favourite party to take overall control of Brent Council. Labour who currently run control of Brent Council are 9/2. The Conservatives who are in a poor third place in Brent are 20-1. Brent Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader Councillor Paul Lorber said: "The bookmakers are simply endorsing what people are telling us on the streets of Brent - it is time for a change. "Locally Labour has let down the people of Brent. Record Council Tax levels have hit pensioners hard, increases in crime have led to many living in fear and are streets are neglected. "Nationally the Labour Government is in chaos. They have lost track of dangerous criminals, the violence in Iraq continues and cuts in the NHS are hurting our hospitals. "It is no wonder that people are angry with Tony Blair and his Labour Council. On Thursday the people of Brent can send them a powerful message. "The Liberal Democrats offer a positive vision for the people of Brent. We are campaigning for more police on the beat, a freeze in the Council Tax and to save Post Office services. "The bookies odds reflect the facts. The Conservatives cannot win in Brent. They finished a poor third in Brent at last years General Election. They have no MPs here."
