Sarah Teather is campaigning with local NHS staff for a better deal for Brent

Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has condemned the Government's record on health after news reports showed that the Brent Health Trust has the second highest debts in London, and the fourth highest in the whole of the UK.
Despite scaling back services this year, the BBC have shown that Brent health trust (tPCT) still has a deficit of £24million, 149th out of 152 trusts in the country. The Government is now forcing Brent tPCT to embark on further cuts which will hit vital services across the borough.
Health trusts in neighboring boroughs, including Camden, Barnet and Westminster all managed to maintain a surplus. Health bosses have blamed Brent tPCT's problems on weak management, claiming the trust suffers from a 'persistent or deliberate failure' in governance.
Sarah has questioned Health Ministers in the House of Commons on the huge cuts to local health services. She has called on the Government to apologise to the people of Brent and to go back and think again.
Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:
"The Blair/Brown Government left behind a disastrous situation here in Brent. Our local NHS has been serially mismanaged at every level, badly letting down the local people it is supposed to serve.
"Local people are fed up with the Government trying to wash their hands of any responsibility for the NHS. It is utterly shameful that Brent is languishing amongst the worst health trusts in Britain
"Every day more and more essential services are facing the chop. This disastrous policy will hit hardest on Brent's most vulnerable families, and the impact will last for generations.
"Ministers owe the people of Brent an apology for their gross mismanagement of NHS finances. Protecting local health services in Brent should be a top priority for the new health secretary."
