Sarah Teather and Brent Liberal Democrats are making a difference

Brent's campaigning Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather has urged Brent voters to use the European elections on Thursday 4th June to send a clear message to Gordon Brown.

Elections in Brent are a close fight between Labour and the Liberal Democrats, with the Conservatives trailing a distant third. With Gordon Brown's Labour party failing to improve the economy and Brent's Labour MPs shamed by the expenses scandal, many voters have said they will be giving their support to the local Liberal Democrats.

The Liberal Democrats are calling for closer cooperation with other countries on important issues like the economy, crime and climate change, and highlighting the strong record of local MP Sarah Teather's work for local people.

Local Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East Sarah Teather said:

"People are deeply disappointed by the Labour government's failure to improve our daily lives here in Brent. Gordon Brown and his ministers seem too busy squabbling amongst themselves or mired in controversy to do anything for ordinary people.

"With unemployment on the rise and local people worried about their future, we urgently need change. On the economy, as well as issues such as pollution, climate change or crime, we are much stronger when we work together with our European neighbours.

"The Liberal Democrat team is working hard all year around. My constituency office on the High Road is open five days a week and helps hundreds of people with their problems. Whether in Europe or on the local Council, it is the Liberal Democrats who are really getting things done for local people.

"Gordon Brown has failed Brent and failed Britain. I urge people to use their vote this Thursday to send the government a clear message that it is time for a positive change."

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor and Parliamentary Candidate for Brent North James Allie said:

"Brent's Labour MPs have let us down badly with their disgraceful abuse of thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money to fund second homes. Meanwhile, Sarah Teather lives locally in Willesden Green, has not claimed for a second home, and has consistently voted for the reform of parliament.

"The Conservatives come a distant third in elections in Brent. If voters want to send a clear message to Gordon Brown that he needs to clean up politics, they should back the local Liberal Democrats."
